Prayer Points: What They Are and How to Use Them
"Prayer points" are simply specific things to pray about — a focused list that keeps your prayer from wandering or running dry. Here is what they are, plus a ready-to-use list of categories to pray through.
What prayer points are for
A prayer point is a single, clear focus — a person, a need, a situation. Working through a short list helps you pray with intention instead of staring at a blank mind, and makes it easy to pick up where you left off another day.
Prayer points to work through
- Yourself — your heart, your character, today's needs and decisions.
- Your family — each person by name, and your relationships with them.
- Your work or studies — diligence, wisdom, the people there.
- Your church and its leaders.
- Friends and neighbours who are struggling.
- The sick, the grieving, and the lonely you know.
- Your community, your nation, and those in authority.
- The persecuted church and the poor around the world.
- People who do not yet know God.
- Thanksgiving — what God has already done.
How to use the list
You do not have to pray every point every day. Take a few, pray them honestly, and rotate through the rest across the week. Keep a note of answered prayers as you go — it builds faith to look back.
