A Simple Prayer Routine for Beginners
A prayer routine just means a simple, repeatable rhythm so prayer doesn't depend on remembering or feeling like it. Here is an easy daily routine you can start today.
A five-minute daily routine
- Pause (½ min) — take a breath and remember God is with you.
- Thank (1 min) — name two or three things you're grateful for.
- Sorry (1 min) — be honest about anything you got wrong, and receive forgiveness.
- Ask (2 min) — bring your own needs and pray for a few other people.
- Listen (½ min) — sit quietly and let your mind settle on God.
Make it stick
- Pick a fixed time and tie it to an existing habit (coffee, commute, bed).
- Keep a Bible or a short prayer list where you'll pray.
- Start with five minutes — you can always grow it later.
- Missed a day? Just begin again, no guilt.
Growing from here
Once the rhythm feels natural, you can add a few minutes of Bible reading, a prayer journal, or praying through a Psalm. But the simple routine above, done most days, is a genuinely strong prayer life — consistency matters far more than length.
