Lord, I struggle with self-discipline, and I am tired of starting strong and fading fast. Your word compares the life of faith to an athlete who trains with self-control for a prize that lasts; I want that kind of steadiness, but I keep falling short. Help me, not with white-knuckle willpower alone, but with a discipline that grows out of love for You. Strengthen me in the small daily choices that I would rather avoid. When I fail, keep me from giving up entirely — let me begin again without shame. Teach me that discipline is not about proving myself but about freedom. Train me, Lord, gently and persistently, and grow my self-control. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer for Self-Discipline
For the tired pattern of starting strong and fading fast.
“Every man who strives in the games exercises self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible.”
