Lord, my wife's results are somewhere in a system we cannot hurry, and these in-between days have a strange weather all their own — we make small talk over dinners neither of us eats, and circle the one subject we are both too afraid to name. Your word tells my soul to be still and wait for You alone, since whatever we are hoping for must come from Your hand and not from refreshing a screen. Settle the churn in me. Keep me from sketching out futures I have no business sketching, and keep me gentle and unhurried with her, so my fear adds no weight to hers. Sit with my wife in this odd, suspended time. And whenever the call finally comes, let us already be standing in You, steady for whatever it holds. Amen.
