Lord, my wife begins chemotherapy now, and everything in me wants to fix what I have no power to fix. Your word says Your grace is sufficient, that strength is perfected in weakness — so I lay down my need to be her rescuer and ask You to be strong precisely where the treatment leaves her with nothing. I cannot take the sickness from her or shorten the heavy weeks ahead; I place every one of them in Your hands. Pour Your grace into her on the days her body has nothing left to give. Let me love her in unshowy, ordinary, faithful ways, and spare me the uselessness of mere worry. When she is least recognisable to herself, let her be sure of two things at least: that You are enough, and that I am hers and not going anywhere. Be sufficient for my wife, Lord, where I cannot be. Amen.
