Lord, my wife is about to give birth, and I have never felt so much love and so much helplessness at once. There is so little I can do except be there, hold her hand, and pray. Your word says You cover us with Your feathers, that under Your wings we find refuge — so spread that shelter over my wife and our baby through this delivery. Give her strength for what her body must do, and courage when it gets hard and frightening. Steady the hands of everyone caring for her. And steady me, so that my fear does not add to hers — let me be a calm, sure presence beside her. I cannot make this delivery safe by wanting it badly enough, and I will not claim outcomes that are Yours alone; I can only shelter under Your wings with them, and trust. Cover my wife and our child, Lord, and bring them through. Amen.
