Lord, my wife has lost our baby, and I am two kinds of helpless at once — aching for her, and aching for our child, while not quite knowing where to put my own grief. Everyone asks how she is doing, and they should; but this was my baby too, and some days I am quietly coming apart where no one thinks to look. Your word says You are close to the broken-hearted — so be close to my wife in the sorrow I cannot reach for her, and close to me in the grief I keep swallowing to stay strong. Show me how to be present without trying to fix her, and brave enough to let her see that I am hurting too, so she does not feel she is grieving alone. Guard our marriage, that this shared loss would draw us together and not silently apart. Carry us both, Lord, through a grief with two faces. Amen.
