Lord, the worst of it is behind my wife, and as she heals I keep feeling how true Your word is — that a husband is to love his wife as his own body, because somewhere in these long months the border between her body and mine wore away. When she ached, I ached; now that she mends, something in me mends with her. Thank You for that strange grace. Strengthen what is still weak in her, and give her patience with a body relearning how to be well. Where the illness left its marks — on her confidence, her stamina, her trust in the future — be gentle, and make my steadiness one of the ways You heal them. Teach me to love her not despite these months but through them, the way You have loved us: faithfully, to the end. Make my wife whole, Lord, and keep the two of us one. Amen.
