Lord, I am a stepparent, learning to love children who did not ask for me and may not be sure they want me. Your word tells me to put on compassion, kindness, humility, and patience — and I need all of it, in large supply. Help me love these children without trying to replace anyone, to earn trust slowly rather than demand it. Give me grace for the days they test me, push me away, or compare me to a parent I am not trying to be. Let me honour their other parent and their history instead of competing with it. Where they are grieving changes they had no say in, let me be a safe, steady presence, not another source of pressure. Show me how to be exactly what they need — sometimes close, sometimes simply reliable in the background. Grow real love between us, Lord, at the pace it can actually grow. Amen.
