Lord, my sister is in labour, and the girl I grew up beside is about to become someone's mother — I can hardly believe it, and I can hardly sit still. Your word says You take us by the right hand and say, do not be afraid, I will help you; so take my sister's hand in the hours ahead, and be her help when her own strength runs low. Carry her through the pain and the effort of bringing this child into the world. Steady the people around her, and guide everything they do. I am about to become an aunt, and I already love this baby fiercely — watch over the little one through their first and hardest journey. Keep me useful and calm out here rather than adding my nerves to the room. I can't control how any of this goes, so I am simply trusting my sister and her baby to You. Hold her hand, Lord, all the way through. Amen.
