Lord, my sister has surgery ahead, and the dread of it is sitting on both our chests. Your word remembers a man who sought You and was freed from all his fears — free my sister from hers, and me from mine. Steady her in the hours before, with a calm she could never summon alone. Guide the hands that will operate and the whole team caring for her. Keep her safe as they put her under, and bring her gently up again when it is finished. Let me be a steady presence on both sides of it. I cannot decide how it turns out; I place my sister in Your keeping. Free her from fear, Lord, and carry her through. Amen.
