Lord, my mother is recovering, and after months of holding my breath I am almost afraid to feel the relief rising in me. Your word says You turn mourning into dancing and trade sackcloth for gladness — and that is what I feel happening, cautiously, in our family: the grief loosening its grip, ordinary gladness sneaking back in. Thank You for the strength returning to my mum, for her voice on the phone sounding like herself again, for a future with her still in it. Finish the healing. Soften the fear that still tightens whenever a check-up nears. Teach me not to waste these recovered days bracing for the next blow, but to dance a little, gratefully, while they are mine to have. You turned our mourning, Lord; help us learn the steps of gladness again. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer for My Mother During Recovery
As your mother regains herself, joy can feel almost disloyal to the fear you carried; let it come anyway.
“You have turned my mourning into dancing for me. You have removed my sackcloth, and clothed me with gladness.”
