Lord, my mother is through her surgery, and the tables have turned: the woman who nursed me through every childhood fever is now the one who needs nursing. Your word tells me to honour my father and mother, and I want to obey it not as a duty but as love — to honour her in how gently I help her rise, how patiently I wait while she does what she still can, how fiercely I guard her dignity when illness keeps chipping at it. Give me a servant's heart and a steady hand for the weeks ahead. Strengthen her body as it knits, and let her feel cherished rather than diminished by needing me. Turn this reversal into something tender between us, never something that shames her. To honour my mother is my whole prayer today, Lord; teach me to do it in a way she can actually feel. Amen.
