Lord, depression has settled over my husband, and I am watching the man I love withdraw into a greyness I cannot reach him in. Your word says You uphold all who fall and raise up those bowed down — so uphold him now, lower than I can get my arms, when he cannot lift himself. I am not asking You to flip a switch and hand him back to me cheerful; I am asking You to keep him, and to keep me steady beside him. Show me the practical love that actually helps — the meal made, the appointment kept, the silence shared without me needing to fill it. Guard me from taking his flatness personally, or believing I should be able to love him out of this. Hold our marriage together through a season that asks so much of it. And give us both the resolve to get him real treatment, because this is an illness that deserves care. Uphold my husband, Lord, when he is bowed all the way down. Amen.
