Lord, the results for my husband have not come, and I lie awake doing the arithmetic of a night that refuses to end. Your word says the soul waits for You as watchmen wait for the morning, and tonight I am that watchman, counting the dark hours until we know. Teach me to keep this vigil in hope and not just in fear. Hold my husband's mind, which I know is racing behind his quiet face, and hold mine here beside him. I am weary of carrying tomorrow before it has even arrived; help me lay it down until it comes. Be the daybreak my whole soul is straining toward — not the phone call, not the report, but You, already awake on the far side of this darkness. Whatever the morning brings, meet us in it. We are watching for You. Amen.
