Lord, it is late and my husband is at the table again, updating his CV with a brave face that does not fool me. He is reaching for a new job, and I am praying over his shoulder. Your word says a man will enjoy the fruit of his own labour and it will go well with him; grant him that, after a wearying stretch. Ease the private worry he will not say aloud — the pressure to provide, the dread of starting again among strangers. Lead him to a place that values what he brings and a manager who treats him fairly. Remind him, on my lips, that the mortgage was never the measure of the man I married. Make me his shelter and not one more demand. Walk my husband into that new door, Lord. Amen.
