Lord, my father has always been the steady one, and it unsettles me to see him weakened by this disease. Be his refuge now in a way he may have never needed before. Quiet any fear he is too proud to name, and let him rest under Your shadow like a man finally able to set his burden down. Give his body what it needs to fight, and give his soul peace whatever the fight brings. Help me to honor him through this — to be present, to listen, to say the things sons and daughters too often save for later. Hold my father, my God, and hold me as I watch. Amen.
