Lord, my father is held captive by addiction, and I ache for the man I once thought invincible. Your word promises that in Christ the old self can pass and everything be made new; I dare to hope that for my dad. I plead for his freedom, through what may be a long, slow turning. Bend his pride enough to confess he needs help and to receive it — treatment, counselling, a brotherhood of men in recovery. Pull away the secrecy that locks men like him in silence. Keep me from stewing over old wounds or surrendering to hopelessness, and give me wisdom about love and limits. Make my father new, Lord, and refuse to give up on him even when he gives up on himself. Amen.
