Lord, my daughter is about to give birth, and I am praying from the waiting room of my own heart — too far to help, too close to stop worrying. Your word calls You a refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, and this is the moment my daughter needs exactly that. Be her present help through the pain and the long hours and the fear. Give her strength beyond her own, and surround her with skilled, caring people. Watch over my grandchild through the journey of being born. Quiet my own dread as I wait for news, and keep me from imagining the worst. I cannot promise myself that all will go smoothly, and I will not pretend otherwise; I can only entrust my daughter and her baby into hands far more capable than mine. Be a very present help to my daughter, Lord, right now — and carry them through, whatever comes. Amen.
