Lord, the dark is hard for my child right now. Bedtime brings tears, the closet and the shadows turn into threats, and a small voice calls down the hall for me again and again. Your word is a promise I want to tuck in beside them: you will not be afraid of the terror of the night. So meet my child in that dark room — be the comfort that stays after I have kissed them goodnight and gone. Shrink the monsters back down to coats and toys. Turn the long, scary night into something survivable, and then, slowly, into rest. Give me patience for the fourth trip back to their bedroom, and tenderness instead of frustration when I am worn out too. And let my child build, night by night, a quiet confidence that they are safe, that they are guarded, that morning always comes. Watch over my child through the dark, Lord, until they can close their eyes unafraid. Amen.
