Lord, tomorrow my child goes into surgery, and I need to be braver than I feel, because children read their parents' faces. Your word says, be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or dismayed, for the LORD goes with you wherever you go — so put that courage in me first, that I might pass some of it to my child. Go with my little one into the place I cannot enter; be there at every moment I will have to miss. Steady the hands that operate, and bring my child safely up and out. Help me prepare them with calm and honesty, neither frightening them nor pretending. And give me practical strength for tomorrow — to wait, to advocate, to be the steady presence they need. You go wherever they go, Lord; go with my child tomorrow, and stay. Amen.
