Lord, I send my child off to school and into a world of their own that I cannot fully see — the classroom, the playground, the friendships and pressures and lessons. Your word says that You give wisdom, that knowledge and understanding come from You. So give my child wisdom for more than tests: wisdom for kindness, for courage, for knowing who they are. Guard them on the journey there and back. Surround them with good friends and caring teachers, and protect them from cruelty and from harm. Help them learn, and help them feel that they belong. On the hard days — the lonely lunch, the failed test, the unkind word — let them know they are loved at home no matter what happens at school. And quiet my own worry as I let them go a little further each year. Watch over my child today, Lord, and grow them in wisdom. Amen.
