Lord, my brother has been diagnosed, and the boy I grew up alongside — fought with, covered for, learned the world beside — is staring down something neither of us saw coming. Your word says that two can withstand what overpowers one, that a cord of three strands is not quickly broken. So make us that cord: him, me, and You. I cannot take the diagnosis from him, but I can refuse to let him face it alone, and I am asking You to be the third strand that holds when our own grip slips. Steady my brother in the fear he will downplay, because that is how we were raised. Give his doctors wisdom. And bind the two of us closer through this rather than letting distance or helplessness creep in. We grew up in the same house, Lord; let us stand together in this too. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer for My Brother After a Diagnosis
When your brother is diagnosed, the kid you grew up beside is suddenly facing something huge; you stand with him.
“If a man prevails against one who is alone, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
