Lord, my closest friend has an operation coming, and the worry for someone this woven into my life runs deep. Your word tells us to trade anxiety for prayer, and promises a peace past understanding to stand guard over our hearts — I ask that peace for them and for me. Ease their dread in the lead-up and replace it with Your calm. Steady everyone in that theatre. Keep my friend safe while sedated and bring them back to waking. Let me carry the load around it — there before, present during, steady after. I cannot control how it ends; I can surround them with prayer and Your peace. Be with my best friend, Lord, every step.
