Lord, my best friend is recovering, and I keep thinking how close I came to losing the one person who has known me my whole adult life. Your word asks what thanksgiving could ever be enough for the joy I feel — and there honestly is not enough; I am just grateful, down to the bone. Thank You for handing my person back to me. As they find their feet again, let this friendship come back deeper rather than merely the same — fewer things left unsaid, less of each other taken for granted. Use everything we have just come through to make us braver about telling the truth and quicker to show up for each other. Carry them, gently, through the last of the healing. And whenever the old fear tries to creep back into me, replace it with thanks instead. I cannot render enough thanksgiving, Lord — so simply receive my whole grateful heart for my best friend. Amen.
