Lord, the chemotherapy is grinding my best friend down, and the thing I most want them to know is that I am not going anywhere. Your word gives me the vow for it: where you go, I will go; your people will be my people. That is what I want my friendship to mean through all of this — that wherever this illness takes them, I am going too, not as a visitor but as someone who threw in their lot with them for good. Carry my friend's body through the worst of the treatment. On the days they feel like a burden, let them feel chosen instead. Keep me faithful past the point where it is interesting or easy, all the way through the dull, hard middle of it. Where my best friend goes, Lord, let me go too — and let us both find that You are already there. Amen.
A prayer for you
