Lord, my best friend has surgery tomorrow, and my mind has spent all day rehearsing outcomes I have no power over. Your word walks straight into that spiral: be anxious for nothing, but bring everything to You in prayer with thanksgiving, and a peace beyond understanding will guard your heart. So here is my anxiety, named and handed over — and with it, thanks for every ordinary year of this friendship I almost forgot to be grateful for. Pour that guarding peace over my best friend tonight, over the surgical team in the morning, over me while I wait. Whatever the coming hours hold, keep my heart from unravelling and keep theirs at rest. Bring my friend safely out the far side of this; our story is not finished. I am laying my fear down again, Lord, and again — trade me Your peace, and keep my best friend. Amen.
