Lord, I bring marriage before You — this covenant two people make, and then spend a lifetime learning how to keep. Your word says that above all else we are to put on love, the bond that holds everything together. So pour that love into the marriage I am praying for: the kind that is patient on the dull days and faithful through the hard ones. Where there is joy, deepen it; where there is strain, bring gentleness and understanding. Help two people keep choosing each other, keep forgiving, keep turning toward each other instead of away. Guard this marriage against the slow drift of busyness and the quick damage of harsh words. Give wisdom for the decisions only they can make, and grace for the ways they will inevitably fail each other. Bind them together with a love stronger than their worst days. Be the third strand, Lord, in this cord. Amen.
