Lord, month after month I hope, and month after month I grieve, and the longing for a child has become a quiet ache I carry everywhere. Your word says that when we do not even know how to pray, Your Spirit prays for us with groans too deep for words — and that is where I am, with a longing I cannot always put into language. So receive the prayer underneath my prayers. I will be honest about what I want: a child. But I will not believe the cruel lie that a stronger faith, or harder praying, would by now have produced a baby — that is not how You work, and it is not true. Meet me in the disappointment, the appointments, the well-meaning questions that wound. Hold my worth steady when my body feels like it is failing me. Comfort me whether or not my arms are ever filled the way I long for them to be. I pour out this ache to You, Lord, and trust You to hold it. Amen.
