Lord, I come to You with a word I never wanted to say: cancer. It frightens me, and some days it is all I can think about. Be nearer to me than the fear. Steady my hands when they shake and quiet my mind when it races ahead to things that have not happened. Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses who care for my body, and give me the grace to receive help when I cannot manage on my own. Where there is pain, bring relief; where there is dread, bring peace that I cannot explain. I place my life, and the outcome I cannot control, into Your hands. Amen.
