Lord, I am angry, and the heat of it is hard to hold. Something feels wrong or unfair, and the anger keeps replaying it, tightening its grip on me. Your word does not tell me that anger itself is a sin — it says be angry, but do not let it lead me into harm, and do not let the sun go down on my wrath. So I bring the anger to You before it curdles into something I will regret. Show me what is underneath it — the hurt, the fear, the helplessness it is guarding. Where my anger is righteous, channel it into something good instead of something destructive. Where it is out of proportion, cool it enough for me to think. Keep me from wounding the people near me, or myself, in the heat of it. And give me, in time, the harder courage to forgive without pretending the wrong did not happen. Take the edge off my anger, Lord, before I hand its damage to someone else. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer for Anger
Anger isn't automatically wrong — but when it runs you it can do damage; here are words to hand it over first.
