Lord, our community is reeling. Something terrible has happened here, and the grief is everywhere — in the candles, the silence, the faces of people who will never be quite the same. Your word says that those who mourn will be comforted, and right now we are a whole community of mourners. So comfort us, together. Hold the families at the centre of this loss, the ones whose grief is deepest. Steady the helpers, the leaders, and the ordinary people quietly holding others up. Keep us tender toward one another rather than turning on each other in our pain. Where people are asking how You could let this happen, do not be offended by the question — sit with us in it, even when there is no answer that helps. Knit us together in the grief, and let no one carry it entirely alone. Be near, Lord, to a community that is hurting. Amen.
