Lord, I am about to begin a time of fasting, and I want it to be more than going without food. Your word calls me to turn to You with all my heart — with fasting, with honesty, with a softened spirit. So I set this time apart to seek You, not to earn anything or to perform, but to make space for You where appetite usually shouts the loudest. Steady my body through the hunger, and use the emptiness to make me more aware of my need for You. Guard me from pride about it and from turning it into a rule rather than a gift. Meet me in this fast, Lord, and turn my heart more fully toward You. Amen.
